Mission
The Goal of My Wild Classroom
At MWC, we are working to:
- Create a sanctuary for native plants and wildlife on one acre in Coastal Maine;
- Provide resources and inspiration for others who wish to create similar spaces;
- Educate individuals and groups about the critical need for habitat and the importance of native plants within that habitat, for the health of wildlife and humans alike.
Grounds
Creating an Environment for Wildlife and Humans to Thrive
My Wild Classroom consists of one acre of pollinator and wildlife gardens, woodland habitat, and a restored native meadow and perimeter wetlands. Native plants, multiple water sources, and lush habitat provide bountiful spaces for wildlife to grow and thrive. Additionally, a food garden and indoor hydroponics provide healthy, organic produce for people occupying the space.
The goal is to demonstrate that we as a species can feed ourselves and still leave space and resources for wildlife in our lives. And, in fact, our lives are richer for doing exactly that.
Vision
Resources for Home Owners
These are tumultuous times for so many right now, and wildlife is no exception. With a rapidly changing climate, pesticide overuse, and diminishing habitat, insects, song birds, amphibians, and mammals are all facing profound challenges to their survival. To protect them — and ourselves — home owners must get involved, educate ourselves, and become stewards for those lacking the voice to protect themselves. At MWC, we’re here to help you do exactly that, regardless of the size or scope of your project.
